I bought this book for a homeschool curriculum based on Charlotte Mason style teaching. The language and writing is very advanced for a seven year old, but that is part if that teaching philosophy. My son really enjoyed it and it made him want to learn more about animals.

Dr. Phillip L. Hunsaker is a Professor of Management in the School of Business Administration at the University of San Diego. He is a seminar leader, speaker, author, teacher, and researcher in the areas of personal, interpersonal, team, and organizational effectiveness. He has consulted and provided training for a variety of organizations such as Coca-Cola, Qualcomm, Naval Civilian Personnel Command, San Diego County School System, Mead-Johnson, and Boston Scientific. Dr. Hunsaker has authored over a hundred articles in academic and professional journals, and eleven books including "Teams; Training in Management Skills; You Can Make It Happen: A Guide to Personal and Organizational Change; "and "Communication at Work."

You won't sell it back

If you really want to get the most out of this book, don't plan on selling it back. The assessments, when done honestly, are the only way to gain context and write the action plans. The concepts are practical and applicable and it even addresses the sometimes unspoken issue of office politics.

Interesting and easy to understand!

If you're buying this as a textbook, you'll be happy to know that it's actually pretty engaging, and it includes a lot of quick self-assessment quizzes that are pretty helpful. The book is also incredibly easy to understand. It does a much better job of teaching basic business communications ideas than the average textbook, and it's formatted in a way that makes it easy for the student to find information quickly.

It's also nice and lightweight, which makes it easy to hold up and read in a chair or in bed; for once, I don't have to hunch over a desk to read a textbook because it's too heavy to read! I normally have to buy a digital version of most textbooks for that reason.

All that being said, I would NOT recommend this book for casual reading. Even though it's interesting, useful, and convenient, it's unreasonably expensive. I would recommend at least buying a used copy, if not a different book, if you're looking at this for fun or self-enrichment. Students, of course, don't get that option!

Some involve simple applications of the concepts and can be solved using a calculator, while several are from real-life situations and require writing computer programs or use of library subroutines. Practice on these is expected to build up the reader's confidence in developing large computer codes.

About the Author
Santosh K Gupta is Professor of Chemical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India. A graduate of the same institute, he obtained his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA, in 1972. His research interests include modelling, optimization and on-line optimal control of polymerization reactors, and modelling and multi-objective optimization (using genetic algorithm) of chemical engineering systems. He has published over 200 papers in these areas, and has also authored/co-authored the textbooks, Fundamentals of Polymer Science and Engineering, Momentum Transfer Operations, Fluid Mechanics and its Applications, Reaction Engineering of Step-Growth Polymerizations, and Mathematical Methods in Chemical and Environmental Engineering. He has been Visiting Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Notre Dame, IN, USA (1985-87), National University of Singapore (1998-99), University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA (1999-2000), and IIT Bombay, Mumbai (2008-2010), where he was the L & T Chair Professor of Chemical Engineering. He has received several awards and honours including being the honoree in two festschrift sessions in the Catalysis and Reaction Engineering Division, AIChE Annual Meeting, Minneapolis, 18 Oct 2011, and the honoree in the festschrift issue of the journals Polym. Eng. Sci. (Volume 51, No. 10, 2011).

Great Experience!

This was such an easy transaction! My daughter needed this book for college in January and this rental was the best price I could find. The book came quickly, was in wonderful condition and all the expectations and instructions were clearly explained. She used the book this past semester, and then Amazon even sent me a reminder that its return date was coming up. I had saved the original box so I just printed the label, followed the instructions and dropped the book in a mail box. I was able to track it from the label, saw when it was accepted back, and within just a matter of days, I received confirmation that the rental was closed! So easy and effortless! I highly recommend using this service!!!!!!!

Great for dancers and therapists

This book is a great resource for dancers and physical therapists alike. The concepts are presented in a clear and concise manner and the chapters include useful exercises to help make the material stick. The book also includes exercises and health plans for common dance and athletic ailments which is useful for readers! This is a textbook that is valuable for taking care of yourself, learning about kinesiology in general and as it relates specifically to the dancer, and supplements your research and papers as a source. This is a textbook to keep well after your course and would be an excellent teaching tool.

Pretty good read.

This is a pretty good read. I don't know if I would have read it without the requirement of a class on editing, but it certainly helps to define good editing techniques. It's more for beginners of editing, but there's some very useful information in there that I wish I would have known from the start.
