food for thought and practice!

i have been out of school and in clinical practice for 25 years, and though i take numerous cont ed courses, the rehabilitation field is rapidly changing. the phrase "evidence based practice" wasn't even in use when i was in school. Believe it or not, i've read this book on the beach and under shade trees on beautiful days, compelled by the models of motor control/movement/coordination that have emerged since my college days. clinicians who want to provide top notch services and who are a dozen or more years out of school may appreciate the opportunity to study new research, learn new assessments, and upgrade their practice. It may not be everyone's idea of a summer read, but it is definitely enlightening and worthwhile.

Good for practical and basic foundation concepts in postural control

I used for the postural control sections. Has been updated to be contemporary from earlier edition. It was the only text I could find that presented postural control at an introductory/practical level. Both authors are well-known authorities in their work on postural control, too.

Was looking for a careplan book for anesthesia but could not find anything close to what I was looking for. This is the best and closest thing out there to help develop anesthetic plan. Very concise and to the point. Covers major diseases and surgeries. Excellent one page summary of each disease and surgery. Love this book.

I was skeptical at first but it didn't take me long to appreciate the value of illustrating how content marketing and strategy works. If you're looking for a book that shows--not just tells--you how to engage in effective content marketing, this is the one to get!

When it comes to outlining an effective content strategy, Andy Crestodina and Content Chemistry take a backseat to no one. This book contains an incredible amount of actionable steps that will keep you and your content team busy for months and years.

The illustrated aspect of Content Chemistry is an added bonus. Yes, this adds color and flare to what are typically boring black and white books, but the illustrations do a great job of helping you visualize the strategy and data rather than forcing you to make your imagination work for you.

Lihong V. Wang, PhD, is Gene K. Beare Distinguished Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Director of the Optical Imaging Laboratory at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Wang is Chair of the International Biomedical Optics Society. His?Monte Carlo model of photon transport in biological tissues has been used worldwide. He has published more than 120 peer-reviewed journal articles and patents.

HSIN-I WU, PhD, is Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Texas A&M University. He has published more than fifty peer-reviewed journal articles. Dr. Wu was a senior Fulbright scholar and is listed in Outstanding Educators of America. He serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of Biocomplexity and the Editorial Board of BioMedical Engineering OnLine.

The Most Practical Text in the Field

This is probably the most practical text in the field of Biomedical Optics I have ever seen. The first one with practice problems so that a student can test themselves on their knowledge. It is also more coherent and easier to follow than the several texts in this field where each chapter is written by a different author and leaps from topic to topic in a rather fragmentary manner. I'd highly recommend this to professors as a standard textbook for a class.

Practical, pedagogical with some room for improvement

A very pedagogical approach to optical instruments used in biomedical imaging is presented by the author in Biomedical Optics: Principles and Imaging. This text is widely considered to be the most practical text in the field.
I am looking forward to a second edition of the book, which is necessary in this rapidly evolving filed of optics. I would like to see learning outcomes at the beginning of each chapter, a review of the main concepts at the end and possibly a profile of a prominent researcher in each application. For instance: Prof. Wang in photoacoustic tomography, Prof. Yodh in Diffuse Optical Tomography, Prof. Boas in MonteCarlo, Prof. Fujimoto in Optical Coherence Tomography, etc.
A future deluxe edition with color illustrations wouldn't hurt either.

Good start, but needs more polish

Considering what came before, this text is revolutionary. Previously a 'text' on biomedical optics consisted of various papers or transactions bound together in one book. This is a volume that was started with teaching a class in mind and has plenty of good exercises for students. I say 'started' because as a text book it still has a long way to go. The writing style is very dry (a minor qualm) and overly concise - sometimes one wishes the authors expounded on the concepts with more examples or illustrations outside of the mathematics.

`Why haven't you mediated?' is fast becoming as common an utterance from the bench in the UK as `why haven't you settled?' And the hapless and somewhat shamefaced clients whether claimants or defendants typically look bemused.

Like so many litigious folk, they have staunchly insisted on having their `day in court' and never for a moment, it seems, have they ever considered mediation as an option. But option it is - and increasingly so. And if you as a practitioner wish to widen your perspective regarding mediation, (particularly if you have international clients) you need this book, recently published in hardback format by OUP.

Within its 1,400 pages, the book places at your fingertips, the accumulated research and commentary on mediation of some thirty learned contributors from jurisdictions around the world.

Describing and analyzing the law and practice of mediation in -- we count twenty-three countries -- this volume presents a wide spectrum of comparative research on mediation, its aim being to promote understanding -- and inspire discussion -- of regulatory issues.

Mediation does offer a number of advantages. As the editors comment, it aims to resolve conflict, ostensibly in the best interests of the parties concerned and of course it reduces court caseloads, freeing up considerable court time and costs both for the parties certainly, not to mention the governments involved.

The book's 25 chapters are grouped under three headings, the first being `fundamental issues; the second, mediation in the European Union-- and in Part III, mediation in the wider world including Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Russia, Switzerland and the USA.

The book contains a wealth of resources for research, almost too numerous to mention here, but which include, an index of over twenty pages, copious footnoting and at the end of each of the chapters, extensive lists of literature, legal resources, legal instruments and web resources, all facilitating easy reference to the relevant research materials.

Interestingly, the book began as an embryonic idea which emanated for the most part from the Max Planck Institute which was commissioned by the German Ministry of Justice in 2007 to prepare a comparative expert report against the background of the European Mediation Directive and which ultimately formed the basis for the (then) new German mediation law.

We are summarizing here, but along with a host of other institutions and individuals the idea emerged of publishing a book for English-speaking readers - and here it is; an enlightening and up to date comparative insight into mediation law across a wide range of international contexts.

If you or your colleagues are involved in any aspect of mediation, or for that matter, any form of dispute resolution, this book may well prove a revelation. The law is stated as of 1 June 2012.

Solid, Biblical Foundations on the Holy Spirit

I was almost astounded at how much scripture is packed in this book. I have rarely read a Christian book that has so many scripture references to back everything up, which I really prefer them to have so I know the author is not just coming up with their own opinions. If you want sound, hard, scriptural foundations on the Holy Spirit that really will help you understand Him and how He operates, read Welcome Holy Spirit.

Just a note, I didn't buy this book because it was a Benny Hinn book, I was just hungry to learn about the Holy Spirit. I didn't know pretty much anything about Benny Hinn when I bought this. And anyway, this book really isn't about Benny Hinn at all. It's about the Holy Spirit.

This really is the companion to "Good Morning, Holy Spirit". I intended to read Good Morning first, but this one shipped before it and I couldn't wait. Really though, it's best to read Good Morning first, then this, because Good Morning is an introduction to person of the Holy Spirit, while this book really dives into the scriptures on more the attributes of the Holy Spirit. I read this one first, read Good Morning second, then when I went back to this and read it again I understood alot better. Read both books, you won't regret it! I read them and my walk with Jesus has been completely transformed! These books will introduce you to the PERSON of the Holy Spirit, "the Helper" who guides you and causes you to walk with the Lord so much better. He helps bring God from being the "pie in the sky" to being your personal Friend and Guide. I think every hungry Believer needs to read these books.

Hypnotizing...like scalding hellfire!!!

I was stunned, dazed and completely overcome with dizzying effect this spin left me. HYPNOTIZED is a remarkably well blended romance and mystery, with fascinating shades similar to that or almost akin to paranormal. The way each layer of Olivia's discovery of her forgotten past is revealed is deftly done and exceptionally suspenseful. There are so many things to love about this book, I was immediately drawn at the prologue alone. One of the best things about it is that there are enough twist and turns to keep you wondering. The relationship between Olivia and Ivana, her stepmother, is heart warming....or so it seems, but don't let that fool you. This one will have you hooked from the very first page.

This is an abundance of charm…Marlow Kane's perky, at times dark and foreboding first-person narration carries readers along to a warm, gratifying conclusion. The wants, needs and obsession is just mind numbing over the top and yet not enough. Every moment Marlow and Olivia are together sets the scenes on fire, they're way over their heads or nothing at all. They're possessed, obsessed with each other you could almost feel the heat singesl. Every private, heated most carnal moments between a man and a woman, the words are described beautifully, exquisitely, it's like a communion of souls. One passage, words uttered by Marlow, touched me...quote "you're the color of my blood, Olivia, what hurts you hurts me. There's no difference between your skin and mine" quote....Aww!

The elements of mystery and suspense in every turn is gripping. I was held in wonderment over much of this story and realized early on to expect the unexpected. This is a story of betrayal and deceit, trust and true love. Ms.Le Carre is an author with brilliant mind and wild imagination, her descriptive narration so fascinating, unbridled that I am left in awe, utterly! Ms. Le Carre's page after page of captivating, bewitching tale intertwined with positively splendid charming romance, disproves the adage that "you can't go home again."

Two words... UTTERLY RIVETING from start to finish, a book of healing, understanding, rebirth, and finally accepting, a story that you won't forget easily...I could only sigh in appreciation as I turned the last few pages, so well-written and thought-provoking.

A most fantastic novel…when the story comes to an end and the curtains have been lowered, the lights dimmed…and the reader is left with a longing to know more...there is no better compliment to the author. If you were performing on stage, Ms Le Carre....it's a STANDING OVATION! BRAVO!!!

Oh my! I loved this book! Hypnotized is a deliciously dark, well crafted standalone novel by Georgia Le Carre and it totally rocked my world. The story drew me in on the first page and held me completely enthralled, gripping the edge of my chair until the very last line. Once I started reading, I simply could not stop. My heart stuttered, my breath quickened, my pulse pounded as the blood rushed through my veins and yes, it was absolutely that good! The narrative is contemporary, imaginative and beautifully written in the first person with alternating his and her points of view from the two protagonists, Dr Marlowe Kane, former successful neurosurgeon from America now practicing clinical hypnosis in London, and Lady Olivia Swanson, a wealthy British aristocrat suffering from severe memory loss caused by a devastating automobile accident. Marlowe Kane is an emotionally paralyzed man crippled by guilt as a result of a tragic loss, now living a tortured miserable existence with no hope for the future until he agrees to take Olivia as a patient, hopefully to help her recover her memories through the use of hypnosis. For the first time in years, he begins to experience inexplicable yet undeniable feelings for Olivia but desperately tries to fight his increasing attraction to his beautiful patient and remain professional. Olivia also feels the forbidden combustible chemistry between them which takes on a life of its own, refusing to be denied by either as they are drawn into its irresistible vortex. I fell head over heels in love with each of these flawed and complex characters. They were both well developed, remarkable, engaging and utterly perfect for each other. And most surprising is the fact that neither of them are what they initially appear to be reminding us that in the end, we are all merely human, capable of questionable decisions and horrendous mistakes yet still worthy of love and redemption. She draws in her reader, charms and captivates, invoking a variety of opposing emotions while leaving a tantalizing trail of breadcrumbs to follow, skillfully leads them through a well orchestrated gambit of surprising twists and turns generously laced with spine-tingling suspense and sinfully delicious erotic sex, then shocks them senseless with an unexpected but satisfying conclusion. Absolute perfection! I loved it! I'm totally smitten with Georgia Le Carre and her unique style of writing. What did I like about this story? Everything! What didn't I like? Not a darn thing! Would I recommend this book? You bet and I am but only for adult readers. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book!
